Inspirational Memoir

As a child I had a competitive attitude. I was the tomboy of the neighborhood and always played with the boys from basketball to foot races on the street. I had a drive to be the best that I could be. My dad noticed my potential and constructed a contract with various exercises (push ups, calf raises, plyometerics) for me to accomplish daily and in return I would get allowance. I was a young rising star who hoped to some day make it to the WNBA, but along the way there were a few stumbling blocks.

One particular incident had me on my knees and down for the count . I tore my ACL and meniscus the end of my junior year of high school playing basketball. That was a devastating period for me, it seems as if all my hard work from when I was a wild headed tomboy was sucked up by a tornado and immediately vanished into thin air. College recruiters who were once interested quickly shied away. That only fueled the fire to make me work extremely hard in and out of physical therapy and ultimately overcame my injury. A sport I once loved I no longer had a passion for, but thank God for a back up plan. Who would've  known a sport I began freshman year of high school for conditioning purposes would be my crutch 4 years down the road.

I received a scholarship to run track at the University Of Toledo!  I ran track 3 seasons in high school and now I signed my life away to compete on a collegiate level at a mid major college. I honestly had no clue what was in store for me.  I placed 3rd in the conference, went to NCAA and placed 27th when I was ranked 49th on the East Coast, went to USA Junior Nationals and placed 11th.  All of this happened a year after my ACL recovery, you can't tell me God isn't GREAT! Sometimes you have to go through the valley to make it up on the mountain.

Now I compete as a NPC Bikini competitor and had a nice showing at my show this past October placing 2nd. My goal is to become pro within the next year. A healthy body is more than looks; it gives me confidence, high- esteem, and the courage to inspire others who want to live a healthy lifestyle as well. Whether someone is my client or not my purpose as a personal trainer is to improve and empower everyone I have an encounter with.  It brings a smile to my face knowing I helped someone feel better about their image.

The point of my memoir is not to boast about my accomplishments because all the glory belongs to God, not myself. This is for anyone who's fire and passion is no longer burning.  One door may close, but many more can open up. Work ethic and determination along with hard work are key elements to success! I want to inspire people. I want someone to say I almost gave up, but after reading your story I got back on my feet and decided I came to far too give up or give in. YOU CAN DO I!!!!

That Little Girl was me!

Countless nights this little girl cried. Because deep down inside she was scarred by others distasteful, hurtful, and ignorant words. Insecurities, doubtfulness, and feelings of being unaccepted seemed to weigh her down. Seen as the typical tomboy long shirt, baggy pants, and wild hair around town. Years later that little girl emerged to become a beautiful and intelligent young woman. Full of confidence and high self-esteem. Now filled with joy and glee, but once upon a time that little girl was me. *K.Genae*

12 Donuts 12 Days

One bad decision can cost you everything.  One moment of weakness can tarnish a goal that you've been striving after day in and day out.  It ONLY takes one a moment of vulnerability to take control and knock you out for the count. In my case one dozen donuts had my name on it with 12 days out from one of the biggest shows of my life. I am sure you are thinking the following: 1. You workout everyday 12 donuts won't effect your body! 2. What in the world are you doing eating 12 donuts? 3. How did you eat 12 donuts? Yes, I'm human believe it or not and I ate 12 vanilla dipped donuts with the sprinkles on top! I love sprinkles "BIG KID".  I let a moment of weakness creep in during an essential phase of my competition prep, which cost me 1st place. After I ate my donuts, I immediately regretted the damaged that I did and how it would diminish my progress.   Nutrition wise, the dozen donuts costed me 3,500 calories, well over 4,000 mg of sodium, 200 g fat, ...
